 Product Description Spain's Rotor Bike Components is a new player in the market, as is Quarq. It's fitting that both teamed up in 2009 with the Cervelo Test Team to provide cranksets. Rotor is already known for their oval rings, ridden to great success by Carlos Sastre at the 2008 Tour and by the team, which in 2009 rode their cranks and chainrings. The Quarq CinQo Saturn Rotor 3D Wireless Powermeter is a great result of the collaboration. 3D cranks are aluminum arms that are extensively CNC machined for both superior stiffness and lightness. The 3 and D of 3D are for Trinity Drilling system; three hollow shafts drilled through the length of the crank. The result is a hollow structure that is very light (and much lighter than it looks) and still incredibly flex resistant. Rotor's oval rings are the opposite of the ovalized rings of the late 1980s. Rotor orients the oval to minimize the "dead spots" in a pedal stroke, allowing you to increase the length of your power stroke each time your pedals make a revolution. This also reduces "acceleration peaks" and "loading peaks" and thus puts less stress on the leg and the joints. And you can adjust where the oval is in relation to your pedal stroke to maximize your strength.This high-tech approach to re-thinking the crankarm and chainrings goes very well with Quarq. The CinQo Saturn powermeter is the creation of James Meyer, an engineer and aspiring triathlete with time on his hands and no money, so he tried to figure out how the SRM did its magic in order to build and ride his own powermeter for a fraction of the cost.
